This trail is one listed in “Guide to AZ Backroads & 4-Wheel-Drive Trails” and a description and a track (gps, gpx file) can be downloaded from FunTrecks (https://funtreks.com/off-road-trails/walnut-canyon/). If you don’t already have the book you can purchase it online from Funtreks.  The staging area will be just south of Hwy 177 along North Battle Axe Road, south of Superior, AZ at (33.17737, -111.04002). The trail is rated as moderate and is described as being beautiful sonoran desert with towering red butes on all sides. The northern part borders White Canyon Wilderness and the southern half runs along side the Gila River. As described, it is only 19.4 miles so I will search for some addition trails to drive, probably another road that leads to the River that we would have to go down and back on the same road, that would add another 10 miles for a total of 30 miles.  The trail, as described, is a loop.

We will stage at 9:45 am and depart no later than 10:00 am.  When asked how many in your party only state 1 because I only need to know the number of rigs that will be going. We will cap the number to 10.

  1. Do you have a wait list for this ride?
Can you start another, separate, group?

William, I will start an informal wait list and will let you know if someone cancels. Would you like to lead a separate group?

  2. If anyone decides they need to cancel, can you call me 602-670-2591 so I can coordinate getting your open space.

I’ve, apparently, missed out on a couple people who have had to cancel.

Also, I’m willing to ride shot gun on this ride if someone has an open spot???

I can meet at the parking lot and pay for some gas!!!!!

Everyone, John Boettcher has graciously agreed to lead half of the group so I am opening up registration for more riders for our ride this Friday.

  4. A lot of names here that have not made it to a General Meeting. Would be nice to see you at the next meeting in February.

  5. Late suggestion… anyone want to meet in Superior for coffee and breakfast before headed to the trail head? Several places to pick from. Not sure which is the best. Would be nice to get a full belly before heading out. Meet at 8:15AM, and leave by 9:15? I get one person up for it, then I’ll be there. Just recommend the spot.
