This ride will include many places in the Walker, AZ area. We will stage at the intersection of HWY 69 and Poland Rd. I will email drivers a photo of the staging area after they sign up. We will have a driver’s meeting at 9:00 and depart by 9:15.
We will head down Poland Rd. past Breezy Pines, which used to be called Poland, to the Walker/Poland tunnel. In its day it was a masterpiece of technology. When being constructed two teams began on each side of the mountain and met in the middle at completion. This tunnel was used to transport gold and silver from the Walker area to the train track in Poland. Mules hauled wagon loads 24 hours a day. Today the tunnel is flooded and the entrance is caved in.
From the tunnel we will continue west on Poland road to the Senator HWY to Walker Rd and Hassayampa Lake which is now dried up. A car drove into the lake many years ago and can now be seen at the bottom of the dried up lake. From the lake we will drive to Potatoe Patch where we will stop for lunch at the park.
After lunch, we will continue down Walker Rd. to the famous pink car, Blue John Mine and on to the coke oven (Walker charcoal kiln) and back to Poland Rd and our staging area completing a loop.
The entire ride is only about 25 -30 miles but will be a full day. I drove the majority of this ride in my SUV and the roads were easy but there are a couple of roads on this loop that I have not driven. I have double checked with a resident that these roads are not too narrow and have not been washed out. There may be some rough spots but nothing we can’t handle.
Bring lunch, drinks, snacks and a camera. Radios will be on channel 5.

Since I’m new also, just wondering if there is a way to recognize the group? I have a red Toyota and a blue SXS.
Also I would have an empty seat if someone would care to ride.
I have a black SUV and a green Honda Talon. You won’t miss us. We will most likely be the only ones there!
